“My goal is not to depict landscapes realistically,

but to convey the invisible essence I call the felling

of the body”

ABOUT ARTIST

A Contemporary Swiss Artist Between Alpine Tradition and Far Eastern Aesthetics

Gian Häne is a contemporary Swiss artist whose work dissolves the boundaries between drawing, painting, sculpture, and traditional woodcut. Raised in the alpine landscape of Davos and deeply inspired by Japanese aesthetics, his work captures the diversity and transience of impressions of nature.

At the center of Gian Häne's work is the artistic engagement with landscape. In drawings, sculptural wood and graphite cuts, concrete casts, or paintings, Häne is primarily concerned with capturing the diversity of his empathetic impressions of nature in order to ultimately preserve them in a work of art.

His sharp, embossed lines and barren, atmospheric landscapes are often compared to German Expressionism. Particular parallels can be seen in the woodcuts of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, who also lived and worked in Davos.
